I CAN ONLY HOPE LAMPARD WILL NOT HUNT CHELSEA DOWN IN THIS TITLE RACE.
BY: PETER OGUNSEYE
Frank Lampard, the Chelsea legend who contributed immensely to Chelsea successes in winning trophies like the F. A cups, the champions league, the Carling cup now known as the capital one cup and also the Europa league was asked to leave by Chelsea management. In fact, his contract was not renewed since it is the management policy to always renew yearly based on performance the player's contract above 30years.
At the 2013-2014 season, Frank Lampard was expecting the renewal of his contract with Chelsea management most especially when John Terry’s contract was renewed for one year, Lampard expected same for himself, but Alas!!!!the management has refused to extend his contract and the Chelsea legend was asked to leave. Though many Chelsea fans expressed their displeasure because they never expected someone like Lampard to leave as he still has it in him but this was not the case. I can only imagine Lampard frustration on this issue, but he was able to take the bull by the horn as he set out looking for clubs in America and just as fate will have it he joined Manchester City f.c.
When Chelsea f.c played against Manchester city Lampard scored against Chelsea in the first leg, forcing Chelsea to a 1-1 draw when he was brought in, in the second half making Chelsea loose a valuable 2 points. Lampard scored again against Sunderland to make it 3-2 making Manchester City to have 3 valuable points and tallying Chelsea at the e.p.l table with 46 periods. The mentality of the city players on the field of play shows that Chelsea is going to face a serious title challenge from City, especially with a Chelsea legend on their side, Lampard.
As the race for the title continues in this New Year, I can only hope that Lampard will not shoot down Chelsea in this titlechallenge, especially now that his contract has been extended till the end of the season.
