A CONFUSED INNOCENT CITIZEN; WHAT DO I DO?
BY: PETER OGUNSEYE
I cannot steal, but can only work hard to accomplish my aspirations. I must study hard to become someone I was told. This I did, worked hard, sacrificed my sleep burning the midnight oil to achieve my goal.
My goal is to be someone in life; an important person, a personality of conscience who helps the weak in any way he can. Achieving this purpose is becoming a mirage because in spite of my labours no one notices my sincerity in reaching my ends without cutting corners. The government gave laws for me to follow which I abide by. I gave unto Caesar what is cesar and to God what is God, yet the wicked thrives.
The wicked has never thought in achieving through hard work and earnestness, but in violence to make their statement and grievances known by slaughtering innocent citizens in their homes. These innocent citizens are me and you who want to be a better person in life, who tries to live within the ambit of the law and has the right to be protected by my government, though the government is not protecting me enough to make me secure. I cannot sleep with my eyes closed so as not to oppress the less privileged around me lest be attacked by them. As a good citizen, I cannot single-handedly fight the government even though I feel deceived by the regime after all their promises and none is carried through. What do I do?.
The church I attend give me hope, this indeed has been my strength to cling on, trusting that something positive will happen. In this hope I hinged on when I study in the dailies In the dead of the night innocent lives were slaughtered while asleep after working hard to reach their goal in the day some hoodlums sneaked into their homes breached their security and slaughtered this innocent family. With this occurrence are other repeated occurrences without any sense of confidence that this will end shortly. All these routines have been condemned by this government, though, their action is to my dissatisfaction.
The only weapon I possess is my vote. What do I do?
