BUHARI MINISTERIAL LIST – WORRIED BUT CERTAIN

The president commander in chief of the armed forces, General Mohammad Buhari GCFR was truly voted for by Nigerians. This was because of his past antecedent as a former head of state and a disciplinarian at the time. His desire to rule as a civilian president contesting three times before his 4th onslaught with former President Goodluck Jonathan convinced many Nigerians that he has the zeal despite his age to turn Nigeria around.

On his ascension as president, it took the president four months to assemble his ministers who are presently being screened by the senate. Many Nigerians complained about the delay and the need for the president to assemble his ministers on time so as to kick start his promise to the nation during his campaign for the election. The president in his wisdom in his national broadcast on October 1st, 2015reply Nigerians and said ”impatience is not a virtue” “order is better than speed”. I as an individual, I anxiously await the ministerial screening most especially the important and popular nominees like Fashola, Amaechi and Lai Mohammed, who answered brilliantly most of the questions posed to them. However, some of their answers got me worried. These answers are” I don’t sign the checks” ” there are many processes involved in approving contracts, ” “I have never collected bribe in my life” e.t.c. All these statements got me worried because they seem defensive.

Most things or deeds that we do in life may be legally right, but does it make it morally right? As the governor of a state, even if you don’t sign the check

Aren’t they suppose to approve such projects before its implementation in the state? This answer makes me worried about the future of Nigeria and the regime of the current dispensation on how far can they go? Such amount of money spent cannot go without the consent of the governor. A coherent and reasonable explanation would have sufficed to satisfy the minds of Nigerians. They need to accept responsibility as the head even if they are wrong, is what make them leaders in the society, but pushing away blames and responsibilities can make our followers lose confidence in us. The ministerial positions the nominees intend to occupy in our society are leadership position and as such, must be able to take responsibility for their actions.

The trust Nigerians have in the current president is unflinching, since he cannot bring angels to rule the country but only Nigerians. Therefore, if Nigerians are corrupt which indeed was the reason for the change slogan then I should not be surprised if I cannot get satisfactory answers from some of the nominees. Let us assume some of the nominees are corrupt we can only hope they will not be corrupt again until they prove otherwise because Nigerian trust in the president is unflinching and anything Nigerians must do to support him need to be done.

Hope is the strongest branch to hold onto in this fragile Nigeria political system. It is this hope that has sustained this country so far. Hoping for a better Nigeria is the greatest hope for the common man we can only hope for a better Nigeria.
