THE MANTRA OF CHANGE- SLOW BUT STEADY

When President Mohammad Buhari made his independent speech in October 1st he made some catchy statements like”impatience is not a virtue” “order is faster than speed” these statements came from the clamour of Nigerians that the pace at which the president was going was too slow or was below their expectations. For example the ministerial nominees took like four months before they were appointed and people are expecting a drastic change immediately after his swearing in into power. For example the sacking of sixteen permanent secretaries which the president just made out yesterday was expected by Nigerians long ago but it is just falling out at present. The terminal leave of Lamorde the E.F.C.C chairman was also expected long ago, but it just happened recently.
The question that comes to my mind at this time iswhy is it now that the president is doing what Nigerians had expected months ago? From my own point of view the president must have taken his time to understand the system of the ministries and their permanent secretaries. He must have investigated them and may have agreed within its conscience that relieving them of their duty is the right call. Would these permanent secretaries be free from corruption with the past regime? Wouldn’t the ministers who were powerful at the time forced them in the name of directives to do some dirty things? Most especially now that permanent secretaries are not truly recognized as in the 80s? I think the president would have considered these things before making his decision. Most importantly, what I truly observed is that the president has indeed been briefed about the situation of things in the past administration before taken the giant steps that he took. For the change mantra to effectively take off, the runway for the change aircraft must be ready and smooth, the dirty old areas must be rejuvenated which may have necessitated some of the current decisions of the president.
Truly the president is doing what Nigerians expected, though slow to Nigerians, however, the
The wisdom of the president to approach the system in this slow and steady pace, has empowered him more than he was on May 29 when he was sworn in as the president.
The orderliness of Mr president supported his slogan,”order is faster than speed” if his actions are seen from the holistic point of view. From the way I look at things a patient study of the president’s actions for few months to come, will definitely point to us to the direction where change will lead us to.
