THE TWO PILLARS OF BUHARI’S CABINET
I have taken a painstaking look at the formation of Buhari’s cabinet. My observation is not about how or whether his cabinet will work, but the foolproof system that will make his ministers work without distraction. Nigerian’s cry for change is based on 4 major demands which are 1) Security 2) Power 3) Petroleum 4) Economy. Calling for a deliberate look at these four demands by Nigerians, this present government can only play with these TWO Pillars in his cabinet.
Security – The president, commander in chief of the Armed forces Federal Republic of Nigeria made some security changes immediately he came into power. The relocation of the defencecentre to Maiduguri was a game changer in the battle against Boko Haram. The relocation brought motivation to the foot soldiers who were motivated by the presence of their Chief of Army Staff in Maiduguri. The international campaign of the President to the international community like U.S, Germany and France shows the president’s determination to end the insurgency. The government effort towards insecurity in the country
Has drastically reduced the activities of the Boko Haram. At least the determination of the government to end insurgency by the end of this year seems plausible. If government could end insurgency before the close of this year, security which Nigerians voted for would have been achieved by 60percent which will definitely advance the expected growth in the state. I am not surprised that the president did not appoint his ministers until this time, because the President understands that with insecurity in the country there is little or nothing that the ministers can do.
2. INFORMATION AND CULTURE- The appointment of Ahlaji Lai Mohammed is indeed a welcome development in the country. The way he disseminates information to Nigerians during the campaign shows his capability as an information minister. With his appointment, he is capable of tackling the opposition to a standstill especially now
That the enemy did not yet know why they go wrong, or neglect to accept why they fail, will construct the task easier for him. In other words he will be the shield for the government most especially the ministers who will need to concentrate on their duties. If the A.P.C can utilize these pillars to its fullest, the party is certain of triumph in the succeeding four years. However, a viable opposition is needed to put them on their toes so as to make the government sensitive to the yearnings of Nigerians lest they become anarchists.
