FINAL ONSLAUGHT AGAINST BOKO HARAM IS LAUGHABLE ONLY IF………
General Mohammad Buhari the Grand Commander of the Federal Republic gave his service chiefs an ultimatum of 31st of December to quash the BOKO HARAM sect terrorising the country most particularly in the Northern region of Nigeria. Until recently, the Nigeria military fought so weakly that the Masses are becoming uncontrollable.
With the emergence of the new President, stability came into the country, not because the president did anything different, but because the people have faith in him to stir the country ship correctly. I personally think that being a retired GENERAL in the army, he definitely will know how to tackle the BOKO HARAM crisis. I was not surprised when he moved the command centre to Maiduguri where Boko Haram has been tormenting the innocent citizens. It is important to express that with the coming to power of President Buhari the rate of attack had indeed brought down drastically compared to the former democratic dispensation under the former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.
President Mohammad Buhari took the fight to the insurgent rather than wait for the next onslaught of the Boko Haram sect. He cut the road blocks mounted by the military in defence against the approach and concentrated on engaging the war to Boko Haram. These tactics has brought
Positive results by reducing the uncontrollable attacks on innocent citizens by the sect.
The president has shown promise to many Nigerians that this terrorist group can be stopped, but to give an ultimatum that the sect should be demolished within 3 months is laughable. First and foremost, defeating the terrorist at Sambisa forest just cuts the leaves and the branches and not the root itself, which can only be temporary unless the root cause of the system is destroyed.
Firstly, encouraging education among the youths is paramount in the North East if there will be any permanent cure to terrorism in that part of the country. Cultural Orientation and exposure to some archaic believes in the north is also a major factor to curb terrorism in the North East. To crush terrorism permanently in the North East will take years because the foundation of terrorism is from the mind and it is from the same mind the battle of terrorism must be won.
The established institutions must be firmly rooted in equity most especially the justice system in Nigeria. Justice, equity and fair play must be the watchword of the country and a guiding principle or philosophy in their deeds.
However, the final onslaught promised against the insurgent by the Federal Government is a good head start, but it will be an effort in
Futility if after winning the battle, they rest on their oars to end the war, which will definitely make the final onslaught laughable.
