THE RIYADH CONFERENCE; LIGHT OF HOPE BECKONS IN SYRIA.
When the crisis in Syria began, the middle east countries were looking up to the super powers to intervene and solve the domestic crisis in Syria. Russia and the United state's intervention in the matter worsens the situation in a way, because the two countries are not of the same view in resolving the matter. Russia on his own under the leadership of Putin wants to protect his interest in Syria through the leadership of the President of Syria, President BASHIR AL ASAD while the United States believes to solve the problem of Syria the first thing to do is to oust the incumbent President of Syria BASHIR AL ASAD.
America on his own has tried a lot, especially through the Security Council to attack Syria and oust the President of Syria through force, but Russia has veto the move, claiming that removing BASHIR AL- ASAD by the United Nations is not the solution and that the removal of the President of Syria is like tampering with the sovereignty of the state. The war going on between the rebel and the government forces has forced many Syrians to flee the country for their safety, thereby creating a refugee crisis in Europe and many parts of the world.
The middle east, presently is bedeviled with a crisis when you consider the ongoing war between Saudi and the Yemeni people. In Iraq the ISIL is causing pandemonium as it ravage the land of the Iraqis with volunteers coming all over the world to join the Islamic fundamentalist and then the war going on in Syria has indeed made the hand of the leaders in the middle East full. However, except the leaders in the middle east make a stand, a unilateral stand in the crisis in Syria the crisis will linger on for decades.
Therefore, I was indeed happy when I heard the report of the Riyadh conference
Informing BASHIR AL –ASAD that he has 2 options which is 1) either HE leave through negotiations or 2) he will be removed by force. Also and most importantly is that ASAD team must have no part in Syria’s future negotiations
For a united Syria the removal of BASHIR AL- ASAD as the president of Syria and his absence at the meeting where all the rebel groups will meet to determine the future of Syria in the absence of Asad will go a long way for a peaceful resolution of the Syria crisis. The position of Russia is not yet known, but considering their interest in Syria they may totally reject the stand made at the Saudi Conference in Riyadh. I have no doubt within me that the stand made at this conference has the hand of America in it which I truly support. The President of Syria cannot and should not participate in any negotiation that concerns the future of Syria. As a leader who used the might of government against its people does not deserve to be present when the future of Syria is being discussed.
The current stand made at the Riyadh conference if maintained will tilt in favour of the rebels who have decided to come to the round table to discuss the future of Syria. The Syria crisis is no longer an internal crisis as its negative effect has reverberated through Europe in particular and the world in general, hence the need to stop it once and for all. The Riyadh conference is indeed a glimpse of hope in Syria, and everything necessary to keep this hope alive need to be done for the sake of the world. The problem In the middle East can only be solved by the middle east.
