JOSE MOURINHO: ALWAYS THE HAPPY ONE, THOUGH SAD NOW, YET, YOU ARE ONE OF US.
In his first spell at Chelsea, Mourinho, usually known as the special one gave the Chelsea faithfuls the premier league cup in 50 years. This was achieved alongside the F.A. Cup and the league cup. He brought in players like Didier Drogba, Frank Lampard, Solomon Kalou, Flourent Malouda and a host of others who are physically and technically strong on the field of play. The team at the time was not an attacking minded team, but technically gifted to score one or two goals at most with a strong defence to stop the opposition from equalizing the goals or scoring back. In their time they were legends. Standford bridge became a fortress and undefeated fortress for many years. He parted the bridge with the Chelsea owner Roman Abrahamnovic in 2008 when he left to join inter-Millan. On his voyage at inter-Millan FC in Italy, he won the Italian Serie A, the UEFA champions league cup and the Coppa Italia in 2009- 2010 where he won treble and further moved to Real Madrid. At real Madrid he broke the Jinx of Lyon, who has always been a thorn in the flesh of the Galacticos in the champions for some years. Though he did not win the champions league for them in Real Madrid, he won the Spanish Laliga with 100 points and the Copa del Rey when he was in Spain. Many individual achievements have followed him ever since he left Chelsea FC.
Chelsea FC on the other hand had been unstable with their coaches since he left. Chelsea started with Avram Grant, Scolari, Ray Wilkins, Guss Hiddink, Carlo Ancelloti, Andre villas boas, Roberto DI Matteo, Rafael Benitez and finally Jose Mourinho. With the return of Jose I have always believed Jose and Chelsea FC are meant to be the one to take the club to greater heights. Chelsea only won the premiership with Carlo Ancelloti after Mourinho left and when he was sacked ,no other coach was able to achieve this feat.
With the absence of Mourinho, the fans never forget his achievement they hold him in high esteem and wish he comes back. The players he left behind who are now called Chelsea legends believe his return will benefit Chelsea a great deal. In the absence of Mourinho the Fans shout his name sing his praises. They believe that Chelsea Messiah needs to come back to bring Chelsea back to his glorious days. Jose too was not comfortable with Madrid, Spain; the FA Spain, the Madrid fans and he need a comfortable place to perform.
Definitely the best bet will be Chelsea. He came and gave us the Premier League cup with players inherited by him though with little modifications. The next season as the defending champion, he was sacked. The Fans are not happy because they believe the key to Chelsea success is Mourinho. To have won the premiership after many years was not a fluke so why the sudden sack of Mourinho? I tried to look at the angle of the Chelsea owner which can only be on the side of investment and profit. For Chelsea to be one point above relegation is a bad omen for the owner who knows the danger of relegation and its effect on the club. From his body language he likes Mourinho but he cannot allow sentiment to rule him either when the reality on the ground is one point to be in the relegation zone. No coach would have stayed that long if not the special one because the owner has faith in him.
Has the special one lost his magic? What happened to Chelsea and Mourinho at this time? Why couldn’t Mourinho turn things around before he was sacked? To me, this is factored of contributory negligence of all the parties. The English FA poor officiating and controversial penalties contributed to it. It makes the club to lose confidence believing that the FA are against the downfall of Chelsea which Mourinho said as well. The players seem tired as well, maybe from the last season fatigue of matches played in the last season. Mourinho’s refusal to change its tactics
Culminated to it because, looking at the last 6 matches played so far, the opposition always defends deeply with a strong counter to win Chelsea. Maybe a compact midfield would have helped like a 4-4-2 formation to beat the opposition. I am of the opinion that Mourinho has not lost his magic he only need to be himself and play the style of football that works for him irrespective of what people say. It is indeed surprising when I sometimes hear the rumour that Diego Simeone may take over Chelsea in the future. With the style of play Diego exude in Atletico Madrid I can’t see why Mourinho would not do the same to lift Chelsea up.
However, the deed is done Mourinho is sacked, Chelsea supporters still love him. We want him back because he is one of us. Even if he can’t come back to Chelsea, we know that he wasn’t solely to be blamed. The fans were ready to sink and swim with him. We wanted to have a coach like Mourinho, who will be given an exceptional grace even when not performing like Arsene Wenger but our owner couldn’t grant it. We are scared of the future can we ever have a stable coach? hmm only time will tell. One thing is for sure Mourinho remains in our hearts and he is one of us.
